Hopkins beats Jones; The Hayemaker is legit

In a fight that very few wanted to see, Old Man Bernard Hopkins proved that he had more left than Old Man Roy Jones Jr., winning a Unanimous Decision over 12 rounds. Hopkins, a waiver pick-up for Joel M's Hurricane Candlebox controlled most of the action, out-grappling a tentative Jones. According to observers, Hopkins also overreacted to mild fouls and fought dirty himself, a consistent tactic of his over the years. Hopkins (51-5-1) gains Option A: 1, Option B: 1 and Option C: 15 with the win. Roy Jones' delusional late-career may finally be over. But this is boxing.

Hurricane Candlebox moves to 7-2 with 3 KOs.

Across the pond, David Haye defended his WBA Heavyweight Title with a 9th round TKO over former champion John Ruiz in England. Haye scored 4 knockdowns in the bout and likely finished Ruiz's long and largely uninspiring career. Haye moves to 24-1 with 22 KOs. He remains a free agent in our league and has become the top challenger for the Klitschkos.
