Hopkins makes history, while Dawson wins on the undercard

Bernard Hopkins made history last Saturday night by becoming the oldest man to ever win a boxing world championship at age 46. Facing Jean Pascal for the second time in six months, Hopkins used a good jab, an effective lead right and solid defense to win a unanimous decision. The victory puts Joel M (6-0-1) in the driver's seat for the league championship. Jean Pascal's loss is the first for Bryn's The Girl's Team (3-1-1). Hopkins earns 2 pts, while Pascal gets -1.

On the undercard, Chad Dawson moved to 30-1 with a 12-round decision win over Adrian Diaconu. Dawson used solid boxing skills to beat the tough Canadian fighter. Dawson earns 2 points for Joel B's squad.

Andre Ward continues Mesiti's undefeated season

Undefeated Andre Ward (24-0) represented Joel M's Brewed Stew with an impressive 12-round decision victory over Arthur Abraham (32-3). Ward used speed, combination punching and controlled the ring for the vast majority of the fight. The win gives Brewed Stew 2 pts and a 5-0-1 record, vaulting Joel M into first place.

Pacman wins; Pavlik and Holyfield add victories; STANDINGS

Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2) added another name to his hit list as Shane Mosley was completely outworked over 12 rounds. Missing from the fight were the vicious hits that both men have been capable of in the past. Mosley's age is certainly an excuse, but Pacquiao was simply too compassionate or too sloppy to call this a great performance on his part. Pacquiao earns 2 pts for Twomey's Raging Bulls while Jay takes his first loss.

Kelly Pavlik, of Bryn's The Girl's Team, scored a decision win over an unproven fighter named Alfonso Lopez. Pavlik earns 1 pt with the win. Bryn moves to 3-0-1.

BWhit sent poor Evander Holyfield into the ring against a fellow oldie, Brian Nielsen. Holyfield proved himself the better man by 10th round TKO, earning 1.5 pts.

Pacquiao vs Mosley

Saturday night features a rare must-see pay-per-view between two top fighters. Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2) of Twomey's team faces Shane Mosley (46-6-1) of Jay's team in what will certainly be one of the year's biggest boxing events. Fans should expect an entertaining bout, as both fighters are the aggressive kind and the reward for victory will be enormous. Most people expect that the winner of this fight will step into the ring with Floyd Mayweather, hopefully in the fall. Let's hope Floyd is up to it.

My expectation for the fight is a 10th round TKO for Pacquiao, of Twomey's Raging Bulls. Mosley is probably stronger than Manny, but he has a hard time landing lots of punches at this stage of his career. Even if Mosley does have early success (and he might), Pacquiao is likely to come back with an offensive onslaught unlike anything Mosley has had to deal with. Pacquiao's workrate and speed should be the difference, and I expect that Mosley's ability to deal with the hard punches to the head and body may start to fade as the fight progresses. I'm expecting a win for Pacquiao, if not by TKO then at least on points. An upset win would be huge for Jay's Head Hunters.
